Ghana Urged to Invest Massively in Forensic Accounting to Enhance Accountability, ACCRA – Eric Oduro Esq, the Executive Director of the Chartered Institute of Tax Law and Forensic Accountants (CITLFA) Ghana, has identified forensic accounting as a critical frontier for national development, urging the government and private sector to invest heavily in the field.
Speaking during a recent graduation and induction ceremony in Accra, Mr. Oduro highlighted that forensic accounting is no longer just a niche practice but a vital necessity for ensuring transparency and proper accountability in both public and private institutions.
A Shield Against Financial Crime Mr. Oduro noted that as the financial landscape in Ghana evolves, traditional accounting methods must be supplemented with specialized forensic skills. He emphasized that forensic accountants play a pivotal role in building and maintaining ethical standards within the professional space.
“The face of accounting is changing in Ghana,” he remarked. “Accountants need a new skillset to remain competitive and effective in the current labor market, specifically in uncovering financial irregularities that standard audits might miss.”
Tackling Cyber Crime A key highlight of his address was the link between forensic accounting and the fight against digital fraud. Mr. Oduro pointed out that as new cybercrime platforms and regulations come into force, forensic accountants will become the primary vanguard in investigating and reducing cyber-related financial crimes.
A Call for Integrity Addressing the newly inducted professionals, Mr. Oduro admonished them to remain “fair and firm” in the discharge of their duties. He stressed that the success of the profession in Ghana depends on the personal integrity of its practitioners and urged leaders to set high standards for their subordinates to follow.
The ceremony concluded with the induction of a new cohort of professionals equipped with the specialized training needed to safeguard Ghana’s financial integrity.
