Fighting Financial Crime in Ghana: Highlights from the 2025 Graduation & Induction Ceremony

The Chartered Institute of Tax Law and Forensic Accountants (CITLFA), Ghana, recently celebrated a landmark achievement in the fight against financial malpractice. The Council, Management, and Faculty hosted a prestigious Graduation and Induction Ceremony, reinforcing the institute’s role as the “3rd Force” in Ghana’s legal and financial landscape.

Distinguished Guests and Industry Leaders

The ceremony was graced by high-profile dignitaries and experts committed to transparency and economic integrity in Ghana. Key attendees included:

  • Naa Prof. Delle Chiir VIII: Founder and Consulting Dermatologist (Distinguished Special Guest).
  • Prof. Appigyei Ampong: Dean, GCTU Business School.
  • Lawyer Lawrence Hotsonyame: Assistant Commissioner, Technical Training Unit, Domestic Tax Revenue Division (GRA).
  • Mr. Biadela Kweku Mortey Akpadzi: Former Executive Director, EOCO.
  • Mr. Sampson Omari Mensah: Council Member and retired GCB Banker.
Celebrating Academic Excellence: The Class of 2025

In total, 15 elite professionals graduated after rigorous training in forensic audit and tax law. A special highlight of the day was the outstanding performance of Mrs. Sitsofe Abla Addae, who emerged as the Best Graduating Student. Her dedication earned her four prestigious awards: Advanced Financial Reporting, Advanced Business Forensics, Ethics, and Consultancy, Best Researcher (Professional) and The Ultimate Best Student Award

 

Expert Insight: Tackling Tax Evasion and Fraud

Guest Speaker Lawyer Lawrence Hotsonyame delivered a compelling keynote address on Tax Evasion and Fraud. He emphasized the devastating effects of these crimes on Ghana’s economy, urging for a more robust forensic approach to revenue mobilization and compliance.

A Call to Action for Employers

The Executive Director of CITLFA, Eric Oduro, Esq., issued a strong recommendation to corporate Ghana and the public sector. He noted that CITLFA graduates possess “in-depth knowledge and skill in forensic accounting, tax law, fraud examination, data analytics, and cyber security.

He admonished employers to prioritize these graduates to help build resilient internal controls and minimize corruption in the workplace.

The new graduands were charged to move into the workforce with a character of unwavering integrity. The mission is clear: work diligently to eradicate, or at least minimize, corruption and financial malfeasance in all its forms.

The event was expertly moderated by Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Tumfour, a distinguished Chartered Member of the Institute.
